Art History Classes for Children
Hello, welcome to Artful Stars!
Is your child aged 4-11 years old and loves to be creative? This is the perfect art class for them!
Drop them off at one of our group sessions. They will experience new materials and learn new skills, all based on the works of great artists, past and present!
Why study art history?
The whole curriculum rolled into one!
We all know that children learn more when they are having fun. Incorporating art history into your child’s curriculum enriches their understanding of all the other subjects.
- Mathematics – Artworks may contain shapes and numbers and some projects require positioning, balancing and measuring. The artist’s date of birth and age can be talking points too.
- Language – Our art history classes reinforce talking and listening skills. Children are encouraged to ask questions and discuss the artwork and artist we are studying.
- Science – Like science, art involves a great deal of experimentation such as mixing of colours. We learn about the relationship between materials through our sculpture and model making activities.
- Geography – We study artists from different countries which broadens a child’s cultural awareness and understanding.
- Religion – Art has been a way of exploring religious themes for thousands of years. Children explore many of these ideas.
- History – We study different artistic movements. This develops a child’s understanding of how societies have changed over time.
- Technology – We explore digital art. Children learn the many ways to create art beyond using pencil and paper.
Home Schooling Support
If your child is home schooled, our classes perfectly complement your curriculum and provide a friendly and relaxed environment for your child to interact with a small group of like minded children.
Children will learn about the work of different famous artists from around the world.
Our mission is to provide an environment where children can feel free to use their imaginations and express themselves through the art they create.
Hello, welcome to Artful Stars, creative art sessions for children aged 4-11.
My name is Julie and I trained as a primary school teacher at St Martin’s College, Lancaster, along with studying a BA in art and design. I am a mixed media artist, but my main passion is teaching art.
I wanted to start art sessions for children as I believe that art is an important part of a child’s development. Here at Artful Stars we offer children the opportunity to release their artistic talents and stretch their imagination in a friendly, exciting, safe and fun environment.
The sessions aim to be challenging and informative. Each child receives a comprehensive art education that promotes creative knowledge and skills they can use in the future, all whilst having lots of fun!
Our activities are based on the works of different artists, craftsmen/women and designers, some famous, and some not so well known, but equally as skilled. All artists are great role models of people who think differently.
Through hands on experimentation and discussion the children become familiar with other artists’ styles and techniques. This encourages them to develop their own style, and by looking at art critically they gain appreciation for all art in general.
By helping them create their own masterpieces the children gain confidence and come to realise that their art is great too! This confidence then spreads to other areas of their lives, in and out of the classroom.
During the sessions the children use various materials, methods and tools to experience drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles, and 3-D projects. All this happens in our own art studio! We also explore outdoor art, in a large secure garden, in all seasons! Great fun!

Romero Britto says Hi to Artful Stars!
A few years ago I was so excited to be able to meet and chat to the fun Brazilian artist Romero Britto. He was visiting Castle Fine Arts gallery in Manchester and I just had to go as I absolutely love his colourful work. He very kindly sent this inspirational message to my art kids! Of course we had to base our own artwork on his playful style during that half term, and whilst out and about the children began to then spot his work in various galleries and shops that summer. If you’d like to find out more about him and his art then visit Britto.com and join the Happy Art Movement!
“Highly Recommended”
I can’t speak highly enough of Julie’s art classes. They are both educational and fun and the children get to learn about different artists, styles and techniques. Julie is kind, patient and very encouraging teacher. She allows the children to experiment with lots of interesting equipment which they wouldn’t get the opportunity to use at home. Both of my children have brought home treasured pieces of art after Julie’s classes. I can highly recommend the Artful Stars Art Club!

“If your child loves art, this is the place for them”
My little girls adore lessons with Julie and she made sure they settled in with her right away. They look forward to learning with her and exploring different techniques alongside gaining knowledge of different artists.
For a while my youngest wouldn’t do any after school activities apart from Artful Stars, it was the only thing she liked.
I cannot recommend Artful Stars highly enough, if your child loves art then this is the place for them.

Julie is wonderful with the children, very friendly, kind and warm. He learns so much whilst having fun and tells me all about the sessions with such enthusiasm. He has produced some wonderful pieces of art over the years many of which we still have on display at home. Highly recommend.
